The Son of Emperor Vespasian Was Prince Titus

In 70 A.D., God executed judgment upon Jerusalem just as Jesus had forewarned 40 years earlier with the statement about the destruction of the temple, “and there shall not be left one stone upon another.”(Mat 24:2) In 66 A.D., the Roman armies had surrounded the city and then mysteriously pulled back. This was the warning Jesus gave to His followers, “And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.” Luk_21:20. At this time, the Believers left the city as instructed by Jesus, “let them which are in Judea flee to the mountains.” The ‘unbelievers’ stayed in the city and received the judgment of God at the hands of Prince Titus and the Roman Armies.

Titus was actually 2nd in command and commanded the 15th Legion out of Alexandria, Egypt. He met up with his father Vespasian who was lead commander and led the famed 10th Legion as well as the 5th legion out of Antioch.

Later in the 4 year campaign against the Jews in Judea which began in 66 A.D., Vespasian was called back to Rome to assume the Emperors seat. This was near the end of 69 A.D.

Vespasion’s son, Titus, was given full command of the Roman Armies and did lay siege to Jerusalem, eventually desolating the city and killing most of the inhabitants within. The few who survived were sold into slavery and carried off to other lands.

What is often lost in the smoke and ashes of the destruction of Jerusalem is the fact that Titus, at the time of his assault, was the son of the current emperor, Vespasian, and therefore heir to the throne and formally entitled, prince of Rome.

The forces of Titus did destroy the city and the sanctuary just as Daniel had prophesied over 600 years before.

“…AND THE PEOPLE OF THE PRINCE THAT SHALL COME SHALL DESTROY THE CITY AND THE SANCTUARY;…” – Daniel 9:26b

And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. – Dan 9:26
