Just one of several thousand end-time voices.
We all have our road to Calvary just as Jesus did though not exactly the same. Ours is lined on both sides with the people of the world, the majority who are influenced in various degrees by Satan. A very small percentage, a remnant, who are the children of God, are scattered about this throng along the road we walk. They encourage and hold up each other. But for the large majority, they are cruel and treacherous children of the Devil who practice lies and deception. But though they may be enemies, we still love them and even pray for them.
This road to Calvary–THE Road–is filled with obstacles, pitfalls, failures, obstructions, traps, attacks, persecution, and torment. Those who walk this road are mocked, cursed, slandered, entrapped, imprisoned, scorned, sabotaged, and trampled upon on their way to the end of this road.
At the end of this road, up until the time the Son of God walked it, there was darkness and death. At the end of this road was a dead-end that could not be passed, a curtain that could not be opened, a veil that could not be penetrated. But Jesus, the Son of God, tore down the curtain, rent the veil, and opened up for us what was on the other side. On the other side was a bright light, a beacon, a call, to all those who would come, who are the children of God. The light never goes out, it is alway there, always bright-shining, waiting for our arrival. And the light shines from the end of the road all the way to the beginning; to the farthest reaches of the road; to the most remote, desolate and darkest places of this road. Wherever you are, whatever you have done, as long as you are able to turn and look for the light, the light will be there. But if you turn back, turn away, you will not see the light.
When Jesus walked this road, it was much more foreboding, more fierce, more intimidating, and more cruel. At the end of the road that Jesus saw was a blackness that was horrendous, a suffering that was unbearable, and a death that was torturous. At the end of the road that Jesus walked, was not the bright light to guide the way, but a cross signaling pain, loneliness, rejection, torment, agony, and an excruciating death.
Only Jesus was capable of walking this road, walking THE Road, at this time. No mortal, no man, no imperfect creature could have walked THIS road. But Jesus, being perfect, walked this terrible road which transformed Him into something He was not. As He neared the end of this road, He became despicable, afflicted, grief-stricken, seemingly as it were, rejected and smote by God. He caused heads to turn away from Him, He was reviled and rejected, oppressed and cursed. He was bruised and wounded, whipped and beaten. He became hideous to look upon, even unrecognizable as a man. And yet, He opened not His mouth, He complained not a word, He uttered not curse.
But willingly He walked, willingly He crawled, and willingly He died. And where Jesus went, no man could have gone and what He did, no man could have done. He tore open the curtain and opened up the light. He went through the veil. Jesus, by His dying on the cross, broke through the darkness and destroyed death and was victorious over the grave.
Now, because of what Jesus did, our road is different. Yes, there is still suffering, persecution, sorrow, pain, and even death, but we walk a road which is not dark. The road we walk is lit by the brightness of HIS light. The Light that shines in the darkness as a guide for the sheep and a gauntlet for the goats. (John 1:5)
So though we may be persecuted by mocking, scorn, slander, and gossip, and broken down by traps and sabotage, afflicted and attacked by invasion and conspiracy, or desolated by isolation and hatred, we walk on, knowing that when we reach the light, we’ve already passed through the veil. So the road that Christ walked, that once ended in darkness and despair, is now a brightly lit causeway to an everlasting highway.
Just as there were many who were appalled at him –his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness– so will he sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand. – Isaiah 52:14-15 NIV
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. – Isaiah 53:3-5 NIV
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken. He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand. After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied ; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. – Isaiah 53:7-12 NIV
